NSCC Partners NAPTIP On Violence Against Older People

The National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC) partnership with the National Agency for the Prohibition Against Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) is helping to change the narrative by stopping the violation of the rights of older persons in Nigeria.
This is contained in an official statement by the Head, Corporate Affairs, Media Communications of NSCC, Mr. Omini Oden on the rescue of an older person from abuse in Umuobi Village, Ezinifite Town, Aguata Local Government of Anambra State, where the son was in the habit of molesting his 80-year-old mother and other relatives in the community.
The statement says a female aging advocate and good-natured Nigerian from the community, waded in and rescued the 80-year-old woman who was about being molested by her son, through the NAPTIP toll free lines (07030000203, 0800-CALLNAPTIP) and MTN 627 and *627# for action to be taken against perpetrators.
NSCC Director General, Dr Emem Omokaro says in consonance with the Violence Against Older Persons (Prohibition) Act 2015, NSCC is working assiduously with NAPTIP to eliminate violence in private and public life, prohibit all forms of violence against older persons and provide maximum protection and effective remedies for victims and punishment of offenders.
Dr. Omokaro reiterated that the agency has strengthened partnership through NSCC community-based response mechanism with the National Human Rights Commission, Legal Aid Council, National Orientation Agency and NAPTIP to deter continuous violence against older persons in the communities, pursuant to the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act 2015.
She appealed to Nigerians to always report cases of violation of older persons in their communities through the NAPTIP toll free lines (07030000203, 0800-CALLNAPTIP) and for MTN 627 and *627# for action to be taken against perpetrators.
It will be recalled that, the National Senior Citizens Centre in concert with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in December, 2022 closed in on the case of a viral video that emanated from Enugu Ngwo in Enugu State, where a female adult was shown manhandling an Old Woman said to be her mother.
