IWD 2021 Women Affairs Minister Doles out Palliative in Abuja Community

In continuation of the 2021 International Women’s Day (IWD) Dame Pauline Tallen on Thursday honoured the women of Karshi community, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory FCT, Abuja by sharing palliatives to hundreds of them.
Speaking during the occasion, the Minister said the visit is part of commemoration of this year’s International Women’s Day with the theme ‘Women in Leadership: Achieving an Equal Future in the COVID-19 World’.
Tallen said the visit was part efforts to continue enhancement of capacity building and empowerment programme for rural women on income generation and skills acquisitions.
According to Tallen, the ministry uses the visits for sensitization and awareness creation on effects of climate change on health and our environment and in particular the supply and distribution of gas cylinders to rural women in order to alleviate their sufferings and health hazards from the use of fire woods.
“It is on this note that, we are here to with the Karshi women groups and their leaders on this special occasion which I believed will help to draw public attention to issues of women and girls and placed it at the forefront of National Development Plan.
“The Ministry would stop at nothing in her effort to ensure the realization of an equitable society for all Nigerians. I celebrate all our rural women, our Development Partners and others here present at this gathering.
“This is a global event to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. As a Ministry responsible for the welfare of women, we are happy to bring this event down to our rural community” stated the Minister.
Tallen also reiterated the commitment of her ministry in addressing the challenges confronting women and girls in Nigeria, stressing that it just flagged-off Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) Project for the enhancement of rural vulnerable women’s condition on Covid-19 in 10 selected high burden COVID-19 states; Lagos, Edo, Borno, Gombe, Bauchi, Delta, Ebonyi, Sokoto , AkwaIbom and FCT.
In her remark, the Permanent Secretary Amb. Anthonia Akpabio Ekpa thanked the women who came out in their numbers to welcome the Minister and her entorage adding that they were proud of them and called for better collaboration with the ministry for women development. the Ministry appreciated the women of Karshi.
The project is essentially supporting two worst hit local Government Areas selected per state to benefit from unconditional cash transfer and awareness education on COVID-19 prevention, a total of 1,000 women will benefit from these states.
