Achievers Varsity Expels 32 Students Over Sex Videos, Fraud Offences, says Pro- Chancellor
Prof. Ayorinde also revealed that 17 students were dismissed for engaging in fraudulent practices to obtain examination clearance despite not paying their school fees.
He made these disclosures during the 19th matriculation ceremony of the university, where 936 new students were admitted. He cautioned students against the misuse of social media, warning that it could ruin their destinies if not used responsibly.
“You put your phone before you, dance naked, and tag Achievers University — I will dismiss you. Use social media for positive things,” he said.
He further narrated how a student who was close to graduation was expelled after making threats on social media about dealing with Boko Haram should they come to the university, an act he described as inviting terrorism. According to him, the student’s ₦2.3 million fees were refunded before his dismissal.
Ayorinde stressed that students should focus on using their parents’ resources wisely rather than engaging in acts such as producing sex videos or abusing drugs. He added that more than 15 female students had already been dismissed for sex video-related offences.
“If you want to graduate and rule the world, you will not engage in such acts. Women are not meant for entertainment; they can rule the world,” he said.
He emphasized the institution’s zero tolerance for bullying, drug abuse, fighting, and alcohol consumption, stating that any student caught engaging in such activities would be expelled. He disclosed that three students had already been expelled for dealing in hard drugs and encouraged students to report drug-related activities rather than suffer in silence.
The Pro-Chancellor also blamed some parents and guardians for indulging their children in wrongdoing and urged them to constantly remind their wards to remain focused and disciplined.
He added that any staff member or student found guilty of sexual harassment or molestation would face severe sanctions.
In his address, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Amos Aremu, said the university places high value on quality assurance, discipline, and academic integrity. He advised the newly matriculated students to see their admission not merely as access to higher education but as an opportunity for self-discovery, intellectual growth, and societal impact.
According to him, students would face academic rigor, demanding schedules, sleepless nights, and examination pressure, all of which are meant to build resilience, critical thinking, and leadership qualities.
He warned against social vices such as cultism, examination malpractice, cybercrime, sexual misconduct, indiscipline, and drug abuse, describing them as threats to a promising future.
Aremu assured the students that the university would continue to provide a safe, nurturing, and intellectually stimulating environment for holistic development.
Delivering the 19th matriculation lecture titled “Your University, Your Network: Building Relationships and Opportunities,” Mrs. Ayobami Felix-Olaniyi encouraged students to understand the importance of networking in the university environment.
She described university networking as the process of building meaningful and supportive relationships with peers, lecturers, and staff to enhance learning, personal growth, mentorship, and career development.
Felix-Olaniyi also urged students to leverage relationships with experienced individuals outside the university for guidance and access to academic and professional opportunities. She advised them to maintain and nurture their networks, ensuring they remain helpful, supportive, and meaningful.
