Starlink Global & Ideal Limited has donated 40KVA Solar Inverter to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, (LUTH) in order to boost uninterrupted power supply to the hospital. The power generator is meant to supply energy to Block B, C & D, paediatric Wards and other gadgets of the hospital.
Speaking at the official launch, the Managing Director/CEO of Starlink Global, Murtadha Adeyemi Adeniji, said it was part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to help ameliorate the plight of patients and other hospital users.
Represented by the Director of Admin, Finance & accounts of the Company, Alhaji Rahman Adebayo Alabi, said, the gesture was not the first of its kind, but a continuous act of kindness they show to corporates in need of such.
โThis is in respect to our 25th anniversary. We are targeting three institutions as we celebrate 25 years. We have done similar projects in Obafemi Awolowo University, University of Illori, and we call on well spirited individuals and corporate bodies to come to the rescue of our public institutions because government alone cannot do itโ.
Adeniji maintained that allowing health institutions like LUTH to groan under the burden of electricity bill be excruciating and affects productivity, not even to talk about those who cannot afford a meal a day.
โYou need come here when there is no light at night. To power gadgets. This health institution shouldnโt be put on the bill for commercial purpose. Health institutions are not a profit making organization and shouldnโt be put in commercial billโ
On the financial implications of this projects, he admitted it cost the company hundreds of millions to execute the project.
He implored the management of the hospital to use the facility optimally and maximally.
โWe expect improvement in service delivery because we know energy supply goes a long way to affect productivity. We also expect them to utilise it well for the good of patients and othersโ he stressed.
Chief Medical Director of LUTH, Professor Wasiu Adeyemo, represented by the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee of the hospital, Professor Ayodeji Oluwole, said the gesture would go a long way to impact on the patients and management of the hospital because the project was massive and well appreciated.
โWe can assure Starlink Global that we shall manage this facility judiciously. We need more staff, we have lost of them, the pull and push factor has affected us. We need cheaper energy. We encourage other individuals and corporate organisations to help institutions like LUTH to alleviate the suffering of people. Government alone cannot take care of all the 77 Federal Teaching Hospitals and medical centres in Nigeriaโ he asserted.
