JAMB Results: Candidates Spend Over N60m In Two Days Without Results

Candidates who sat for the re-sit Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) organised by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) may have spent a whopping N30m daily for the past two days, averaging N60m.

This is not unconnected to the fact that JAMB had announced that results of the re-sit exams which were held between Friday and Monday would be released on Wednesday.

Peak News observed that many of the candidates started checking for their results on Wednesday when JAMB announced the results will be out.

The estimated N60m is calculated based on N50 charge for every check by SMS for the result. Hence, if an average of 300,000 Candidates out of the over 370,000 candidates check twice a day for two days, it comes to N60m.

Though Candidates have the option of checking for results through the JAMB portal, Peak News findings reveal that the portal is not activated and anxious Candidates have been using the SMS method of checking to no avail.

JAMB, which initially announced that the re-sit results would be released on Wednesday, later back tracked and said the results would be released on Thursday after it has been reviewed by stakeholders.

As at the time of filling this report on Thursday, May 22 night, JAMB was yet to make any formal announcement on when it will release the results.

It would be recalled that JAMB had cancelled the results of over 300,000 candidates over what it called glitches.

The registrar of JAMB, Ishaq Oloyede, had said that the results of 379,997 candidates across 157 centres in its Lagos and south-east zones were affected.

He cited faulty server updates that prevented candidate responses from being uploaded during the first three days of the exam.
