Cross River Journalists Condemn Political Killing in Obudu
The Cross River State Journalists Forum (CROSSJOF) has condemned in strong terms the killing of a security officer during the initial conduct of the primary elections of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Obudu, Bekwarra Obanlikwu Federal constituency.
The Chairman of the forum, Mr Ignatius Ushie said the killing of an innocent police officer who was discharging his official duty was unwarranted and uncalled for.
“How can a man that left his family for his duty post be killed just like that. As journalists, we condemn this act and call on our security operatives to bring the perpetrators to book. How can you kill people that you want to represent?
“Politics should be played without bitterness, no bloodshed is required, we are calling on political office holders to coordinate their supporters and eschew violence. Obudu, Bekwarra Obanlikwu is a peaceful place and that peace should be maintained by all.
“We commiserate with the family of late Martins Mbang and request that all parties should remain calm while the government investigates the matter and brings the culprits to book. In this political era, let the politics of Crossriverians be an issue-based one and not violence based”.
