Bread Producers On The Brink Of Closure Over Hardship

Nigerian Bakers Association warns of bread production halt if demands remain unmet in two weeks.

Addressing reporters in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, over the weekend, Chief Osmond Nkoma, the state chairman of the association, speaking on behalf of the National organization, emphasized the imperative nature of this action, citing numerous pleas to the Federal Government for assistance in reducing bread production cost.

Additionally, the bakers outlined their demands to include: liberalisation of flour and sugar importation, reduction of import duties on major baking materials.

“Provision of concessionary forecast exchange of flour millers, reduction of Tariff on Imported wheat and sugar and seek of tax holidays “.

Already, Nkoma regretted that these have been the reasons for the increment of the commodity in recent times in the country.
