Ayade converts CRUTECH to UniCross

Governor Ben Ayade has assented to the bill changing the name of Cross River University of Technology to University of Cross River State, UniCross.
The Bill which was sponsored by Rt. Hon. Peter Odinga was to turn Cross River University of Technology to a conventional University which will help the university to canvass for more departments and faculties. As a conventional University, UniCross will offer additional courses like Medicine in its Okuku Campus, and the Faculty of Law and Humanities in its Ogoja Campus.
This will provide an enabling environment for students from Ogoja and other parts of Cross River State to seek admissions in UniCross rather than in Ebonyi, and or Benue State.
It is believed that with more faculties and departments, UniCross will offer opportunity for massive employment of lecturers and non academic staff. With more faculties and departments, the chances of getting additional funding for improvement of its academic activities including research will increase.
However, one of the major draw back of the new institution is the governor’s fiat exempting indigenous students from payment of school fees. School fees, which is internally generated is also a source of funding for any institution of higher learning. The governor will therefore need to rescind on his fee exemption fiat.
Rt. Hon. Peter Odinga who is also the Cross River State House Majority Leader has achieved a lot in bills sponsorship. Many of the bills sponsored over the years includes, Privitazation Bill, the to Establish the State Polytechnic in Ogoja, the Bill to Establish the School of Nursing in Ogoja, and the Bill for the  Maintenance of Hospitals in Cross River State
He also sponsored the Motion To Suspend Carnival, and Road Infrastructures Bill.
Recalled that Rt. Hon. Peter odinga donated one bus each to General Hospital, Ogoja and Monaya Hospital Ogoja. He facilitated the building of a block of six classrooms to the people of Ojirim in Mbube.
